;m a consultant with 12 years experience but I've never had to deal much with DNS. I feel like I'm missing something in my configuration so I thought I would check here. I have SBS2k3 premium (ISA installed) that I'm setting up at my home/office and a web site that is hosted on a UNIX server. The SBS2k3 is on a dynamic IP cable modem, I also have a custom www.dyndns.org account. I manage the UNIX account through cPanel so I have full control over that also. QUESTION: So here is the question, given the information above, is there a procedure some place that shows step by step what to do so that I can leave my web page hosting the way it is (lets say WWW.ZZZZ.COM) but if I want to get access to my SBS box then I can type in YYYY.ZZZZ.COM ? If you can answere this then
right certificate or something like that. Has anyone else had this problem? I have successfully connected Entourage 2004 to Exchange Server 2003 before, but I don't know why it doesn't work now. I haven't tried any Windows clients yet. From my understanding, SBS 2k3 comes with 10 CALs right? Or am I way off base here? Anyway, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Disable SMB signing.I'm sorry I'm not real familiar with Mac OS X (or MS SBS 2k3, for that matter). How do I disable samba signing?Susan spelled it out - SMB signing not samba signing. Its not a Mac specific setting. http://msmvps.com/blogs/kwsupport/archive/2005/04/02/40653.aspxSMB signing has nothing to do with connecting Entourage to an Exchange Server. That's only for
using SBS2003, Premium Technologies, with ISA2000 installed and Exchange2003. I am trying to find out what is being sent to the new ISP, to which I am supposed to connect to send outgoing email. When I open up the properties of the SB SMTP connector, there is not button that I can find that enables logging. When I look at the log files in IIS, I can find lines to indicate that http://.com is being called at the same time that I am forcing a connection. But it does not show the connection strings that are being sent out. How do I get that? [email protected]

the login screen. Please help, Dave.Hi Dave, Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup. According to your post, do you mean you have changed the password through entering CTL+ ALT +DEL to match domain password on laptop, however you can not logon to domain using the changed password. As I know, if you have a machine that is currently logged on with cached credentials and use VPN connection to connect your domain and change the domain provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.I'm not sure I understand the problem, then. It shouldn't be too hard. Perhaps the username/password 'remember' boxes were ticked? That's a good way for users to forget the passwords ;-0. How To Manage Stored User Names and Passwords on
39;m using MSWindows Small Business Server 2003 with its internal backup utlity. The scheduled backups that I've created are to my knowledge running successfully. My question is how do I view what is backed up? I'd like to see physically what is backed up. The directories and files I've selected for backup. Any information is appreciated. RjPThe daily log file will tell you in summary what's been backed up, but not file by file. To see what you've selected to be backed up, go back into NTBackup and review what you selected. Also, I would recommend that once a month you pull a random tape, and do a restore on a signel file to verify that (a) your backups are readable, and (b) restorable. What I will do is to select a static file, rename it, then restore
is: 5.2.3790 Service Pack 2 Build 3790 I need to now if it is standard or premium. How can I tell what version I am running? I ran the Small business server best practice analyzer tool And didn’t get the requested result All it said was: Windows SBS 2003 with Service Pack 1 is installed on this server I need to know if it is standard or premium Any ideas? The easiest way is to ask to see the Server CD's If it's premium it has a Premium Technologies CD On the server you can see if the Full Version of SQL is loaded and or ISA However if the Full version of SQL or ISA is not no it doesn't mean it's NOT the Full Version So your Original CD's is the best way. Another easy way is to ask the client how much they paid for the server software. Russ
I have a new customer that has SBS2003 Premium and the previous tech guy was a old school tech that set up the tape backup without useing the SBS backup. He rewrote the backup scripts, disabled services (like removeable storage, etc) and generally mucked things up. He never got it working correctly and now I'm trying to undo his stuff and get the standard SBS backup to work but it won't and I can't figure out why. Is there a way to just uninstall the SBS backup or at least reset everything? Thankx, David.Did he install this little guy with the wizards? Is the todo list in place? in Add/remove is SBS 2003 in there? No the wizard had never been run before I got to the company. The ToDo is in place and the Add/Remove SBS is there also.
Software and about 30 or so kids software programs. It seems that all of the end users have access to all of these programs. I have about 1 dozen shortcut icons that show up on each of the end users desktop that they do not need access to. Only I need access to them. How do I remove them just from there user setups and not mine? This hard drive was many used by me solely for many years(it came from the computer that is now a full time Server Unit). I had a similar hard drive setup for the rest of the family on another computer which is the current Workstation1 unit. The big difference was that the other Hard Drive was setup with just XP Pro OS, XP Professional Office Suite, All the kids games, virus protection and browsers. That hard drive currently resides on the Workstation1

it be in the same subnet as the internal NIC? Assuming I get this properly configured, how do I configure the firewall ports correctly (I'm obviously new to firewall setup)? I'm using VPN, FTP, OWA and RPC over HTTP for Outlook in addition to typical internet access. The hardware appliance is a Firebox X5 by WatchGuard, if that matters at all. Any ideas out there?I'm not familiar with the X5 so had a quick look at the manual. Very capable device and possibly a little on the 'overkill' side for someone who already has ISA implemented. I probably would have gone a more simple, and less expensive, 'simple NAT router' instead. By implementing the X5 in front of a two NIC ISA SBS you need to consider some items. The device itself has
I had to change the security to Low for Microsoft Access after we started using Windows SBS 2003. How can I get a Digital Signature set up through Microsoft Certificate Server in order to move the security for Access back up to at least medium or even higher? Jasonwhere did you change the security to 'low'? I have two sites running Access on SBS2003 and I did not have to make any such change.
SBS 2003 I have a couple applications that I run on the server. I would like to give someone else access to those applications, but I dont want them to have adminstrator rights on the server. I tried creating a user and tried logging in, but the server tells me that it does not support interactive logon due to a group policy. How do I change that so that they can logon. Not happening.
Hi, Everytime I login to my Server via RWW, I get a Web Certificate error message. I can login and access my computer, but I get tired of the nagging message. How to create/Install Web Server Certificate on SBS 2003 so I don't get the error message again? Please clarify. Your previous post says you configured RWW with the CEICW which means you would have installed the cert. on the SBS. Claus asked you the name you used for the cert. Then you said you got a web page error message. Now you say the "error" you get is the cert. dialog box which you have to then click on to continue. That is normal behavior and you would have to install the cert. on the remote computer to eliminate it.

How do I repair a users My Documents redirection? I have a user who's My Docs are not redirecting to the server, instead there My Docs properties are the local machine path.Hi ck: It depends on what the cause of the problem is. Guessing here, but it may be that the user or the computer are in the "wrong" OU. The result of that would be that the policy is not applied. Check in Administrative Tools, Users and Computers for the OU that this user/computer occupy, and if they are not the same as everyone else, just right click and move them to the correct one. If this is not your issue, post back with any additional information you have messages, errors in the event logs.
need to). My new desktop did not appear. Instead it was just what I think is the default windows background color, a light blue. I right clicked the desktop and attempted to see what the setting were. To my surprise, the mini preview window was showing my background that I wanted!!! Confused, I tried modifying the marguee timeout by one minute then back down a minute, then "applying" the display settings. This worked and my background was changed. When I went into reg edit to check that settings, the "Wallpaper" and "Original Wallpaper" said /documents/local/alex.wait/blah blah. "Converted Wallpaper" said the path I had typed in before, the C: \Windows\Web one. How do I make windows use a certain path for my desktop, no matter who in the
How do i find out if I have Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 or an older version?Open Server Management and it will say R2 in the top right corner.Image in Company Web http://companyweb/ says R2 AlsoErrrr..that concerns me as I installed my SBS 2003 Premium server from the action pack R2 DVD and I haven't got the 'R2' details in either company web or in server management. The only software I didn't install was SQL 2005 WGE (I'm running ISA 2004). What have I missed ? Regards Colin.R2 is an additional Install Did you Install that part? RussHi Russ, Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I did install the R2 component. Maybe I have been a bit premature here, I recently uninstalled WSUS - would that cause the no-R2 issue? full-version Acrobat, and they get the Java that ships with the computer they're using unless I update it for some reason. I don't view Java as something that needs to be updated - based on my home PC, I'd say keeping it current would be a frequent chore. Thanks for your response. How do you prevent users from receiving update notifications from Adobe and Java, or prevent them from installing those updates? Both packages do not clean up their previous installs, install 'other' software in addition, and install unwanted startups for background services, besides multiple plugins. If I can prevent automatic updates from particular 3rd party vendors, that would be a great start. I do not want to prevent all users from installing certificates
I have a customer that is out of town all the time. Sometimes he connect via a cell phone GPRS from Sprint. His laptop is part of the domain and I have SBS 2003 Premium with two nics. When he connects remotely with VPN he can't see any of the server files until he selects "syncronize" but this takes way too long on a dial-up connection. Is there something that I can do so that he will be able to see all of the server files; something like selecting sync without actually syncing? Thanx, David.Never mind, I finally saw the check box that says "Work online without syncronizing changes". You know that old saying, if it was a snake David.
I installed SBS via HP SmartStart and never saw a prompt about the 5 CALs and if I wanted them to be device or user based. How do I tell if they are setup as device or user CALS? Can this be changed somehow ?? Thanks !!!!!You can tell by looking at what you wrote on a sheet of paper about whether Device or User. Haven't done that yet, then find the MS sheet and decide and fill it out. Now read what you decided and you'll see whether they are Device or User REALLY. The SW and SBS2003 does NOT know User from Device CALs. It only knows CALs. The differentiation is entirely a manual operation. The fact that there are different SKUs for 5pack add-on Device vs User CALs does not change that fact. Keep track manually and make that coincide with what you buy and what
Dear all, We guess some staff received and sent some mails that are not related with their work, even against the local government's law. How do I monitor these guys' mail flow, who sent, who received in the server? we use SBS2003 sp1. I don't know their password. Many thanks in advance for your help. MichaelI'd check local law enforcement laws and federal laws before I'd monitor someones email If it's ok you might want to try a keylogger program or a third party program In any case make sure you have the law on yourside, or the person you may put in jail may be yourself. Many thanks Russ for your reply. You are right, I should reply to my boss to check the local law first.
my SBS2003 server with two nics. Do I need two nics? Do I route my mail through both of them or one. I'm a little new at this. Please advise.Hi john, No there is no need for 2 nic card just install sbs2003 normally and use ur exchange server. If you have more doubts please dont hesitate to ask. Syed KhairuddinI've been trying to setup the exchange server to recieve/send email from our email provider with the Pop3 connector. I'm having no luck. Is thier a step-by-step how-to for this for a brand new install?Yes. Just say "No" to POP3 connector. :-) The purpose of that program, in my opinion, is only to be used for a transition period while you migrate to native SMTP. As long as you know your POP3 settings, it generally works well. You
SBS 2003 premium domain working flawlessly for 5 users. We will be opening a second office shortly with 3 people across town. We desire to have each site able to work fully independantly if the wan is down. Since I worked for MS a few years ago on the AD team, I know all about DCs, GCs, replication issues, sites, subnets I even wrote whitepapers on them. What I want is to stand up another SBS 2003 server in the same domain at the remote site. That way, ISA would connect the sites and each site would be able to do file/print/email if the remote site is down. Obviously all of this can be done very easily with standard server and standard Exchange but I really love the SBS utilities, wizards, and add-ons for SBS. I want to keep RWW & ConnectComputer (web function) too. In short I
I would like to be pro-active about this. How do I track this and jump on when this occurs? For example, I found that our ip was considered a dynamic ip. One of the emails bounced back, with the error with a website to check out. The ISP put in a reverse lookup and the problem was resolved. Thanks, DaveIn Server Management, navigate: Site Name (Exchange) - Servers - 'Servername' - Protocols - SMTP Right click the default SMTP server and get it's properties. Go to the Messages Tab. Enter your email address in the 'Send a copyof Non-Delivery Report to:' box. Remember, that if the receiving mail server doesn't send and NDR, you won't be notified. Some people turn of NDRs due to directory havesting attacks. Chris
a new install of SBS2003 Premium. I want to use workgroup and not Domain but, the workgroup option is blanked out and diuring initail install it was not an option either? FrankHi Frank, SBS will be a domain controller, at the root of the active directory forest. There are no exceptions. If you can explain your circumstances, perhaps we can suggest a way forward.Les This may be of interest also My company installs "high end" Home Theater Systems and Audio Video Systems. I would like to "experiment" with SBS2003 to use as a Video server for DVD distribution through out a home. Also my teenage boys do have access to the network. Am I going in the wrong direction? FrankNot necessarily going the wrong direction, perhaps just a bit ahead of your
have set up a SBS 2003 Premium Server, the SQL Server Service Manager has loaded but does not have a sever name in the SQL Server Service Manager Server Dropdown or any sevices shown. How do I install/setup the SQL server name in the SQL Server Service ManagerHave you actually installed SQL Server from the 'Premium Technologies' CD? It sounds like the system is in a known state where, due to a hotfix, the SQL Manager is loaded while only WMSDE/MSDE instances are running and the instances are not registered to it. When you install SQL Server it will register the default instance to the manager and the SQL console can be used to register desirable WMSDE/MSDE instances.Thank you for your help! Does this mean I have to reinstall SQL again or is there a quick way to fix
